bad babies

Do you ever hear this, mamas:

"Is he a good baby?"  Of your three week old.

"NO," I used to like to reply.  "He is a VERY bad baby.  A naughty baby who is trying to manipulate me by not sleeping all night long and demanding to be fed when he's hungry."  Naughty baby.

People don't actually mean "compliant" when they ask you if your baby is good.  They don't mean "obedient," either.  It isn't a remark on the three week olds temperament.  What they mean is, in general, "is the baby EASY?"

But it's still a silly question.

Does the baby not put too many strains on your life, does the baby cause you grief?  Does the baby interfere with your sleep, your meals, your relationship with your spouse, your social life?

If you got a baby who could exist in your life without making an impact on those areas of your life, it must be a FAKE baby.

Not a BAD baby.

That reminds me of  Plastic Inflatable Dummy Husband.
