breasts in active duty

Do you wonder what it’s like nursing babies for 24 years?  Actually its 32 years if you include the per-child years of tandem nursing.

Its...uh, milky.

"Didn't you want your body back?"  It's a rental. I thought I should use it as it was meant to be used, or the Maker might not give me back my full deposit.  I take good care of it because it was a gift.

Baby Rosebud, at four and a half, at Christmas time, finished nursing.  She told me she was getting too big.  That is a subjective statement, actually, but after all, child led weaning is child led.  She was ready.  I was sad.  And happy.  That I had the grace to give all that I had, every drop.

What about all those things you could have done and holidays you could have had and dinners out and the great career? At what looks to be the end of a loooong nursing career, the only sadness I feel is about the times when I was distant or short tempered or unkind.  About the nursing and the nurslings. No regrets, mamas.

No.  Regrets.
